Biography:
Milind Khir, Ph.D., is assistant director for Environment & Construction Research at EPIC (Energy Production and Infrastructure Center), and a professor of Geoenvironmental and Environmental Engineering. Khire holds a Ph.D. in civil & environmental engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. After six years of engineering consulting work in the U.S. and New Zealand, he joined the faculty at Michigan State University (MSU) where he became known for his research in the areas of landfill hydraulics and electrochemical technologies for treating impacted groundwater and industrial wastewaters. At MSU he received a major grant to fabricate a geocentrifuge to study hydraulic properties of landfilled waste and coal ash.
After 12 years at MSU as a tenured faculty member, Dr. Khire joined UNC Charlotte EPIC to lead environmental research. Dr. Khire is the recipient of Croes Medal and Outstanding Service awards from the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Alpha Technological award from the Engineering Society of Detroit, for his research on environmental sustainability of landfills.
