Amy Canevello

Biography:

Amy Canevello, associate professor of psychology, has a research focus on goals and motivation in interpersonal relationships and their consequences for close relationship processes. Specifically, she uses longitudinal methods to examine how people’s social goals affect their own relationship beliefs, emotions and behaviors. She also examines the dynamic and reciprocal effects that people have on each other – that is, how people affect their relationship partners, who then affect them in return – and how those reciprocal effects can change with people’s goals. Her work appears in empirical outlets including Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Personal Relationships and the European Journal of Social Psychology. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from North Dakota State University and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Houston. She completed postdoctoral training at the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan.
